It Ends With Us/It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover

I recently read It Ends with Us and It Starts With Us, both by Colleen Hoover. If you’ve been living under a rock, Colleen Hoover has exploded into popularity, particularly in the TikTok BookTok trending videos. It Ends With Us sold more copies than the Bible last year! It Ends With Us is the first book about Lily Bloom, Atlas Corrigan, & Ryle Kincaid. Colleen described the book as the hardest she has ever written, and it was personal to her, based on her own parents.

In the book, Lily Bloom is living in Boston after her father dies and is hoping to open her own Flower Shop. There is much more to her past that is uncovered in the story, including details into her relationship with her mother and the abuse by her father. Lily meets and falls in love with Ryle, but throughout the story she is remembering Atlas, a person from her past who she had a special relationship with. This story deals with adult issues like domestic violence, love, responsibility, and resentment. I won’t spoil the book for anyone reading, but I will say I enjoyed Colleen’s storytelling of Lily, Atlas, & Ryle, a complicated real-world love story. Her resentment of her own mother for staying with her father for years hit home for me, and Colleen drops truth bombs at every opportunity to help you understand all points of view. It’s a quick read and I couldn’t put it down. I was shocked at the ending…which led me to pick up the next book in the story…It Starts With Us.

β€œAll humans make mistakes. What determine a person’s character aren’t the mistakes we make. It is how we take those mistakes and turn them into lessons rather than excuses.”

It Ends With Us

It Starts With Us starts off right where It Ends With Us left off. A blessing for those who asked for it! Colleen wrote the book for her fans who requested more, and a happy ending for Lily. The book is not just a wrap up of the previous book though: there are new situations that arise that Lily, Atlas, & Ryle must deal with, both separately and together.

These were easy reads with heavy themes, and I finished each one in about a day. I’m looking forward to seeing the first book being made into a movie, although sometimes they just aren’t as good as what we imagine. Anyway, if you want to buy the books, I’ve linked them for you below! and if you have a suggestion for what I should read next, pop me a comment. Happy Reading πŸ™‚
